America Day Weekend

I enjoyed my third 4th of July (or as I like to call it, “America Day”) in a row this past weekend.
The long weekend was great. Nick had four days off so we spent a lot of time together, finalizing wedding plans, watching Mad Men, eating good food, and enjoying our air conditioning on our couch. On Sunday, we were lucky enough to attend the Yankees game where they played the Blue Jays. It was perfect. Much beer was drank (by me) and junk food was eaten. The Jays lost, but they put up a good fight.
That night, Ben invited us to watch the fireworks over the Hudson River from the rooftop of his office building. The view was amazing!
When it comes down to it, Independence Day and Canada Day are pretty similar. Lots of flags, fireworks, BBQs, and over-the-top patriotism. One thing that did stand out to me though was a window display in a liquor store down the street (pictured above) – glass rifles and grenades were filled with vodka and enclosed in a weapons case with an American flag as a backdrop with a poster of Uncle Sam. Yikes.
