Another Miller moves to New York

June 15, 2011 § Leave a comment

My personal favourite former City of Toronto Mayor, David Miller, announced he will be moving to New York to become the Future of Cities Global Fellow at Polytechnic Institute of NYU. The former mayor will assist in the school’s urban strategies, and I couldn’t think of anyone better suited to the job.

David Miller was mayor of one of the biggest cities in Canada for seven years, and while there, Toronto received a number of honours from The Climate Group such as the Low Carbon Leadership Award.

It was clear how much he loved Toronto. I remember running into him a number of times on weekends when we’d both be walking around the city. He’d always be sure to make eye contact and say hi to anyone who noticed him. I always thought it was such an obvious, yet admirable effort to make in his position.

Toronto’s loss is sure to be New York’s gain.
